In order to transmit power to our homes and the industry, it is necessary to maintain the reliability of electric transmission substations that connect and rectify voltage to the central interconnected system. In this sense, connection elements between the SIC and the substation are critical elements for the operation reliability.
In October 2009, connectors in operation had serious overheating problems, which caused the loss of springs mechanical properties, a potential failure, and increase in the electric transmission reliability risk for the central interconnected system.
These products were implemented in the seventies and, in 2009, there were no parts in the market. Therefore, the solution was to develop and research the components material engineering and manufacture them.
Components were manufactured from scratch, using electrolytic silver baths and other special aluminum alloys in some components. Another difficulty was in developing an assembly mechanism for high voltage and maintaining the operation safety and reliability. The result was a client-customized assembly system according to the problem, ensuring the system stability with a comprehensive solution.
