In the open pit extraction process, the use of electro-mechanic overhaul shovels is something common. At CODELCO Northern Division, some of these shovels needed an urgent replacement of their RPC power bars. These bars distribute reactive compensation power to rotation, movement, loading, and bucket hoisting and lowering motors.
This type of parts and pieces removal and replacement may last up to 180 days due to their complexity. However, due to the urgency in putting the shovel into operation in order to continue production, Prodin was assigned the task to remove and manufacture over 120 parts and pieces for the electric house overhaul.
The result was the replacement of the entire parts and pieces in the RPC cabinet of an overhaul shovel in less than one month. This was done by reproducing or exceeding the original manufacturer quality in some products, responding with a complete cycle that includes field inspection, engineering, manufacturing, quality control, and delivery.
Overhaul is one of the most critical processes in mining, as its reliability levels directly affect the amount of copper produced in the entire production line. For this reason, Prodin is crucially committed to mining production, which directly contributes to the country growth.
