CONTEXT:
To transmit power to our homes and industry, it is necessary to maintain the reliability of electric transmission substations that connect and rectify voltage to the central interconnected system. In this sense, the connection elements between the SIC and the substation are critical elements for the reliability of the operation.
PROBLEM:
In AES Gener the connectors that were in operation suffered serious problems of overheating, which generated that the mechanical properties of the springs were lost and a potential failure and increase in the risk of the reliability of the electrical transmission of the central interconnected system.
These products were implemented around the 70s, so they had no replacement in the market.
SOLUTION:
The solution was to develop and research the materials engineering behind the components. Components were manufactured from scratch, using electrolytic silver baths and other special aluminum alloys in some components.
In addition, a mechanism was developed for the assembly tailored to the client to be applied in high voltage to maintain the safety and reliability of the operation, ensuring the stability of the system and thus delivering an integrated solution.
